How to Create a Character Profile

Learn how to build a unique and detailed character for your stories using a simple step-by-step profile system. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.

1. Give them a name and age. Start with the basics. Write down their full name and how old they are. Think about why their parents chose that name, or if they picked it for themselves.
2. Describe their appearance. What do they look like when they walk into a room? Note their hair color, eye color, and their favorite outfit. Draw a small sketch in the corner of your page to help you visualize them.
3. Define their personality. List three words that describe how they act, like 'brave,' 'grumpy,' or 'curious.' Think about what makes them happy and what makes them feel nervous.
4. Give them a goal and a secret. Every character wants something. Is it a lost treasure, a new friend, or a secret mission? Also, give them a secret they don't want anyone else to know.
