How to Set Up Your Own Family Cooking Station

Create a dedicated space in your kitchen where you can safely prep, mix, and assemble ingredients for family meals.

  1. Pick your spot. Find a section of the counter that is low enough for you to reach comfortably. Ask a grown-up to help you clear this space so you have plenty of room to move your arms without bumping into anything.
  2. Prepare your surface. Lay down your non-slip mat. This keeps your cutting board and bowls from sliding around while you work, which makes everything much safer and easier to clean up.
  3. Organize your tools. Place your cutting board in the center and your bowls to the side. Keep your measuring tools in a small container or drawer nearby so they are always ready when a recipe calls for them.
  4. Create a cleaning kit. Keep a clean, damp towel or some paper towels at your station. It is much easier to wipe up spills as you go than to clean a big mess at the end.
