How to Measure Ingredients Like a Pro

Learn the simple techniques to measure dry and wet ingredients accurately for your next baking project. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.

  1. Measure dry ingredients. Scoop your ingredient into the dry measuring cup until it is overflowing. Use the flat edge of a knife to gently scrape across the top of the cup so the ingredient is perfectly level with the rim.
  2. Measure liquid ingredients. Place your liquid measuring cup on a flat, level surface like a counter. Pour your liquid slowly until it reaches the desired line, then bend down so your eyes are level with the mark to make sure it is exactly right.
  3. Check your work. Ask a grown-up to double-check your measurements before you mix everything together to ensure your recipe will bake just right.
