How to Build a Homemade Rhythm Shaker
Learn how to create your own musical rhythm shaker using simple household items and a few easy steps. HowTo: Family Edition: family how-tos that actually help.
- Prepare your container. Make sure your plastic bottle is completely dry inside. If there is any moisture, your rice or beans might get stuck to the sides.
- Add your sound. Carefully pour your dried rice, beans, or pasta into the bottle. Start with just a small amount; you can always add more later to change the sound.
- Seal the shaker. Screw the cap on tightly. Ask a grown-up to help you wrap tape around the cap and the neck of the bottle so it stays securely closed while you shake.
- Decorate your instrument. Use your markers, stickers, or colorful tape to make your shaker look as unique as your music. Now you are ready to start a rhythm section!
